World's oldest person? Jiroemon Kimura challenged by 127yo Chinese woman

Official: Mr Kimura was declared the world's oldest by Guinness World Records earlier this month

??

?Celebration: Ms Luo with her family on what she claimed was her 127th birthday in September

?

China and Japan are constantly struggling over territory, politics and economic dominance - but now it appears the two Asian giants could have found another topic to fight about.

Earlier this month a Japanese man was officially declared the world's oldest living person at 115, but China is fielding an alternative candidate for the title.

This week an official news agency repeated claims that a Chinese woman is 127 years old, which would make her the record-holder by a large margin.

Jiroemon Kimura, a former postman who was born on April 19, 1897, was named the world's oldest person by Guinness World Records after the death of American Dina Manfredini.

He lives in Kyotango and has 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Mr Kimura is the second oldest man ever whose age has been officially verified.

However, just a few days ago the Xinhua agency reported on Luo Meizhen, a woman who claims to have turned 127 in September.

?
Ms Luo lives in Guangxi region's Bama county, an area famous for the longevity of its residents.

Her ID card claims she was born in 1885, but she does not have a birth certificate to prove this.

She lives with her son, who she says she gave to when she was aged 61.

If Ms Luo is truly 127, that would make her the oldest person ever to have lived, beating Frenchwoman Jeanne Calment, who died in 1997 aged 122.

It is unclear how aggressively China intends to pursue the centenarian's record claim, but it has the potential to become another bone of contention between the country and its rival power.

Even if Ms Luo does not manage to wrest the title from Mr Kimura, interest in her home county will doubtless continue as it draws thousands of visitors seeking to discover the secret behind the long lives of its 74 residents aged more than 100.

Supercharge Your Job Search in 2013 | Healthcare News ...

Supercharge Your Job Search for 2012Managing your job search in this economy takes a lot of energy. Scouring job postings, never-ending networking, and constant applications and interviews can take a toll if you?re not careful.

Your job search can only ever have as much energy as you do. For 2013, taking time to recharge yourself will supercharge your job search. Try these techniques:

Write What?s Right: Studies show that people are happier when they take a few minutes each day to write down what is going well and what they are grateful for. Do what feels good to you. Write a few sentences about something good that happened during the day or something you are thankful for in your life and you?ll feel better about your job search and about life in general.

Start Small: What substance is tougher: water or rock? The answer is water. Over time, small drops of water can erode stone. In your life, small consistent actions can also overcome obstacles. Big goals and big dreams are great as long as you remember that you achieve them with one step at a time. Break down your goals into chunks that are easier to focus on and accomplish. And, if you ever feel that you don?t know how to move forward, ask, ?What is the smallest step I can take toward my goal??

Celebrate Small Successes: Getting a job is not the only measure of success. A job offer only happens after many small victories. Did you apply for a job today? Did you call someone you know to talk about your job search? Did you investigate a new kind of position? Pay attention to everything you do and take a moment to praise yourself. Some people have become so discouraged that they?ve stopped looking for a job altogether. You have the courage and persistence to keep going. Celebrate it.

Seek Support: It?s a proven fact that the quality of your connections to others has a bigger impact on your personal satisfaction than almost anything else. It?s easy to get so caught up in your job search that you forget that there are people around who want to help. Make a point of connecting with friends and loved ones and using their support network in 2013. Don?t have a network? You can make one by joining a job-search forum or looking for a community group for job seekers.

Create a Replenishing Ritual: We all have things that energize us and help turn a good day into a great day. Commit to discovering and practicing those rituals that replenish you every day. A few minutes each morning to read, journal or meditate can make a lasting difference.

The final technique is to Adjust Your Attitude. While you might wish for the perfect job, the reality is that a search is less like a sprint and more like a marathon. The good news is that when you make recharging yourself a priority, you know you?ll be able to finish the race. More than that you?ll be ?supercharged? all along the way and have enough energy to really savor crossing the finish line.

Happy job hunting in 2013!

2012 Byron Roe Photography Year in Review: Weddings ...

The year has flown by and looking back not only puts a huge smile on our faces but reminds us of how lucky we are to work around such positivity and love in the world of weddings.? Families and couples put their trust in us to capture their beauty anywhere in the world and this year has been nothing less than spectacular in that regard!? From shoots in Arizona, Las Vegas, New York City, back and forth trips to Portland, Seattle times three?to France, Italy and then back again three weeks later for a wedding in Berlin, Germany?to the beautiful local wedding venues of Brasada Ranch, Pronghorn and Sunriver Resort, we are just plain excited about the art and growth of Byron Roe Photography this year.

Unforgettable 2012 highlights include: documenting the sweetest Seattle surprise proposal, the dramatic Smith Rock climbing ?trash the dress? session, cycling through natural rock arches in Provence, France with VeloSki tours, drinking true Weisse beers in Berlin and stepping foot in the amazing, historical library of the Schloss Neuhardenberg, standing in front of 3,000 people in WPPI Vegas sharing what drives us crazy working together and lots of the perks, getting published in Portland Bride & Groom magazine and the cover art for our local wedding magazine, seeing all the new baby stories from past BRP couples over the last few years, winning ?Best Wedding Portrait? in Oregon for 2012, the many incredible client thank you gifts (including the CANDY BOMB!!) and most of all the client relationships we?ve created with clients past and new.? What a JOY.

At the start of the year, we had some exciting industry education engagements from Wendy?s e-book release party, ?55 Smart Web Ideas for Photographers? (which sold over 5oo copies) to together speaking at?WPPI Photographer?s Ignite and from that, sharing in an interview with?FastTrack Coaching with Dane Sanders? and guest blogger on Skip Cohen?s blog.? We are grateful for and excited about our affiliations with some amazing photography companies that help us do what we do namely: Kubota Image Tools, Pictage, Evolve, Fundy Software, Ripe Social, Sticky Albums, Finao and Black River Imaging ? we thank you for your incredible products and service year after year!

We celebrated a blog redesign early in the year to showcase larger images, added Pinterest and Instagram profiles so we can share in the wedding design inspiration of our clients and up-to-date BRP happenings.? Moreover, we?ve created the ?BRP Client For Life? program (portrait sessions for past clients) and added a beautiful premium canvas album line that we LOVE to our product lineup!

None of this would be possible without the undying support of our clients and vendors, friends and family whom give us the daily inspiration to keep shooting.? It?s the relationships that make the images, that?s the true gift.

We wish everyone a Happy New Year and here?s to 2013~

Cheers,

B + W

Things To Remember When Hiring a Concrete Contractor - Home ...

When it comes to home remodeling, or renovations, often times people don?t consider some of the preliminary stages. For instance, many don?t remember to call in a concrete contractor to help with the foundational work that many other items need to be built on. Furthermore, many forget to include the yard in their search to fix things up properly. If you or someone you know wants to fix up a home and haven?t really taken the time to research hiring contractors yet, consider the following things to remember when it comes down to investing money.

First and foremost, make sure that you find a reputable concrete contractor, before you spend money on a project. This is going to be the most crucial thing that you can do in order to get your work accomplished within a good overall time frame. By making sure that the company you hire is licensed, bonded, and has some years of experience, you can gain peace of mind that that you will be able to move forward with relative ease. If you don?t, you could have a project that may be done haphazardly or could end up being hung up with complications. That will in turn cost you more money to fix than the initial plans call for, so make sure that you don?t hire someone that is known for taking shortcuts.

The second to remember is that concrete requires it?s own separate contractor to get it done well. If you need stairs, platforms, or just about anything mapped out with concrete, you can?t just go with any old company to help you out. Make sure that you seek out an expert that will be able to help you get the job done that you need. There is a finesse to making this type of work shine, and while it might be easy to mix, it?s hard to get right without cracking, breaking or anything that would mire the visual aesthetics.

The last thing to remember is to make sure that you get an estimate and you talk to professionals when it comes to your ideas.

Don?t just go with a company that says yes to everything, because your ideas might be impossible to do. Think about the scope of possibilities so that when you get an estimate it?s reasonable. If you?re looking at a great deal of concrete and you aren?t concerned with financial options, you will still want to get an estimate so that you can gauge the customer service that you?re going to receive if you move forward with any major project.

Whether you?re doing renovations, in the middle of construction, or you just want to change things up in your yard, you can hire a concrete expert to help you get the job done, but make sure that you are selective and go with someone that is going to accomplish the work within a reasonable amount of time at a price that you can afford. Without being selective, you will find problems with the construction process.

The mirror, not the scale, is the enemy of many this New Year's resolution time

Dec. 27, 2012 ? For years Blanca Ramirez, like many Americans, started each new year with a resolution to lose weight. But no more. "I lost 55 pounds this year and the weight is rolling off and will stay off," said the 42 year-old, married, mother of three. Ramirez underwent bariatric surgery at Loyola Center for Metabolic Surgery & Bariatric Care in August and has lost 55 pounds in four months.

Losing weight and improving health are top New Year's resolutions expected to challenge Americans this year, experts say.

According to a study released in December, 2012, more than a quarter (27.8%) of Americans are obese. The United Health Foundation also reports that 30.8 % of American adults have high blood pressure.

"Losing weight has a positive effect on diabetes, heart disease, orthopaedic injuries, and even cancer," said Bipan Chand, MD, director, Loyola Center for Metabolic Surgery & Bariatric Care, who performed Ramirez's gastric sleeve surgery. "Looking good is just one part of the weight- loss equation; adding years to your life is the real benefit."

Chand says there are many reasons that spur people to choose weight-loss surgery, from years of trying and failing to lose weight to experiencing a serious health scare. For Chicago-area resident Blanca Ramirez, it was her own reflection that spurred a decision to have a gastric-sleeve bariatric procedure. "I have been overweight since I was a teenager and I didn't like what I saw when I looked in the mirror," said Ramirez, who is 5 ft. 3 inches and weighed 225 pounds before her surgery in August. "People would tell me I was pretty and I didn't need to lose weight but I knew I was obese and was sick of being fat."

Diets, exercise programs, prescription pills, Ramirez says she tried everything from Atkins to Weight Watchers. The final straw was when poor health affected her family. "My brother had a heart attack at the age of 35. I already had cholesterol problems and I knew my weight would continue to cause more health problems," said the administrative secretary.

Ramirez attended a free weight loss information session offered by Loyola. "I liked what I heard about their program especially the nutritional counseling, exercise guidance and regular support groups," said Ramirez. "Loyola confirmed that my insurance would cover the procedure and that was the final green light to decide bariatric surgery was right for me."

Loyola offers medical as well as surgical weight-loss interventions, including laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding, Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy.

And Ramirez's resolution for 2013? "To help others win the battle of the bulge.People are always asking me my success and I tell them to attend a Loyola information session," she says. "I like looking at myself in the mirror now. I want others to lose weight and like what they see in the mirror, too."

White House talks to include fix to 'dairy cliff'

By NBC's Kelly O'Donnell

The top lawmakers on the Congressional Agriculture Committees are prepared with a plan to avert the dairy cliff, NBC News has learned. This is an agreement between Democrats and Republicans who run those committees and oversee the massive FARM bill that affects the entire food industry and 16 million agriculture related jobs.

NBC has learned that this FARM offer -- which will be discussed during President Barack Obama's meeting with House and Senate leaders from both parties on the broader fiscal cliff -- would likely get the most attention as a "keep-milk-affordable" proposal.

Without action by Congress, dairy prices would begin to soar to an estimated $8 dollars per gallon beginning in January. The pricing would revert to 1940s farm policy, when milk costs were tied to a more labor intensive production. Dairy is the first of many food sectors that would be affected based on their respective seasons.

This bipartisan proposal would extend the terms of the most recent FARM Act, which expired Sept. 30. The length of the extension is still to be determined, though an extension for less than one year is preferred.? Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., said she intends to keep fighting for a full 5-year extension, but believes a short term solution is needed now.

The FARM bill passed the Senate but House GOP leaders have refused to bring it the floor for a vote. There are deep partisan divides over parts of the bill like farm subsidy reforms that would reduce what are known as "direct payments" to farmers.?

Lawmakers behind this idea in both House and the Senate hope to include the FARM extension in any fiscal cliff deal should one materialize

(AP) ? Apple CEO Tim Cook got $4.2 million in pay for the latest fiscal year, a modest sum compared with last year, when the company's board set him up with stock now worth $510 million for taking the reins in 2011.

Cook's pay for fiscal 2012, which ended in September, consisted of $1.4 million in salary, a bonus of $2.8 million, and $17,000 in company contributions to his 401(k) account and life insurance premiums, according to a filing.

Apple Inc.'s board saw no need to give Cook additional shares in 2012 after the sign-on grant of 1 million shares in 2011. Half of those shares vest in 2016 and the other half in 2021. A lot could happen to the value of the shares before Cook can cash them out, but the sign-on grant made him ?at least on paper? the highest-paid U.S. CEO in 2011.

Cook did vest into shares worth $140 million in 2012. Those shares were granted earlier, when he was chief operating officer. He had been acting CEO for a while before the death of company co-founder Steve Jobs in October of 2011.

Apple tends to grant shares to executives every other year. Cook's closest cohorts got big grants in 2012, including top hardware engineer Robert Mansfield, who got shares worth $83 million. Chief Financial Officer Peter Oppenheimer and general counsel Bruce Sewell both got stock grants worth just over $66 million, more than double the value of the grants they got two years ago, reflecting the zooming value of Apple's stock.

The Cupertino, Calif.-based company's compensation policies are relatively simple. Missing are many of the perks that other CEOs command, like country club fees and private use of company aircraft.

PFT: Broncos top power rankings

ManningGetty Images

1. Broncos (four first-place votes):? The only difference between Peyton?s new team and his old team is that the Colts would have been more likely to start 10-0 before going 2-3.

2. Falcons (one first-place vote):? In less than three weeks, we?ll find out whether this Falcons team really is different.

3. Packers:? Twenty years after the Vikings kept the Packers out of the playoffs via a Week 17 drubbing in the Metrodome, the Packers can return the favor.

4. Patriots:? Tom Brady is getting upset, and Rob Gronkowski is getting closer to a return.

5. Seahawks:? They may have peaked a bit too early, but no one has been better than the Seahawks have been the past three weeks.

6. Texans:? They may want to change their name to the Beaumont Boo Birds, based on the impatience that a 12-win season has created among the fan base.

7. 49ers:? If this keeps up, Alex Smith eventually will refuse to run the Wildcat.

8. Redskins:? One of the greatest rivalries in sports has the highest stakes since the 1982 and 1972 NFC title games.

9. Vikings:? They?ve finally found a way to take advantage of an opponents? obsession with stopping Adrian Peterson.

10. Bengals:? Seven years after the Bengals thought they were finally leapfrogging the Steelers, maybe the Bengals finally are.

11. Ravens:? Even with a win over the Giants, the Ravens have the look and feel of an underachiever.

12. Cowboys:? Based on Sunday?s outcome, maybe Jerry Jones should try to hire Joe Vitt, not Sean Payton.

13. Colts:? Like the Super Bowl-winning Colts from 2006, this team can?t stop the run.? Unlike the championship edition of the franchise, a healthy Bob Sanders isn?t showing up for the playoffs.

14. Bears:? The team that hates the Packers more than any other suddenly loves them on Sunday, since a Green Bay win over the Vikings is a key ingredient in a postseason appearance by the Bears.

15. Giants:? Sometimes, if you wait too long to find the light switch, you may realize that the light switch isn?t there.

16. Saints:? The only thing left to root for is the Falcons to lose before qualifying for the Super Bowl to be played in the Superdome.

17. Steelers:? Forty years to the day after they arrived as an elite franchise, the sun finally could be setting on the Steelers.

18. Rams:? Once this team becomes consistent, it?ll be consistently impossible to beat.

19. Panthers:? Cam Newton?s bump of Jerome Boger was neither entertaining nor iconic.

20. Dolphins:? Three touchdowns will get Reggie Bush paid.? But probably not by the Dolphins.

21. Chargers:? Norv Turner?s audition for the Jets? offensive coordinator job went about as well as it could have.

22. Browns:? It?s officially become don?t-buy-green-bananas time for the coach and G.M. in Cleveland.

23. Bills:? An owner who hasn?t bought green bananas in 14 years could soon be cleaning house.

24. Buccaneers:? This franchise eventually may have to ask itself whether it truly has a franchise quarterback.

25. Titans:? Why do we have a feeling that Bud Adams and Ralph Wilson will soon be engaged in a tug-o-war for Jon Gruden?

26. Jets:? Just when the team seems like it can get no more dysfunctional, it finds a way.

27. Cardinals:? They continue to be who we thought they were.

28. Lions:? When Jerry Rice set the record that Calvin Johnson just broke, Rice already had four Super Bowl rings.? In contrast, Johnson has four wins.

29. Eagles:? The good news?? Mike Vick has another chance to improve his free-agency stock.? The bad news?? Mike Vick has another chance to hurt his free-agency stock.

30. Raiders:? Another week, another chance to be reminded of another USC quarterback who can?t get it done at the next level.

31. Jaguars:? It may not be a ?virtual certainty? that Tim Tebow will be a Jaguar in 2013, but it is a ?virtual certainty? the team will still stink.

32. Chiefs:? The folks in Kansas City may finally be ready to send the franchise back to Dallas.

New laws address gays, children, immigration

Measures on gay rights and child safety are among the top state laws taking effect at the start of 2013, along with attempts to prevent identity theft and perennial efforts to restrict abortion and illegal immigration.

In many states, new laws take effect on Jan. 1, while in others they do so 90 days after a governor's signature.

Voter-approved laws allowing same-sex couples to marry take effect in Maryland in January and in Maine on Saturday. California also approved a law exempting clergy members opposed to gay marriage from performing same-sex marriage ceremonies.

In California, a first-of-its-kind law bans a form of psychotherapy aimed at making gay teenagers straight but is on hold during a court challenge. The law would ban what is known as reparative or conversion therapy for minors; such therapies are widely discredited by medical professionals.

A number of laws seek to protect children from bullying and abuse. Pennsylvania school employees in contact with children, who already must report suspected abuse, must now be trained to recognize the warning signs, their legal obligations and what are considered appropriate relationships with children.

That law was being debated and voted on in June as a jury was finding former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky guilty of 45 counts for sexually abusing 10 boys over 15 years.

California coaches and administrators in K-12 schools, as well as higher education employees who have regular contact with children, will be required to report suspected child sexual abuse. Oregon will require school employees to report acts of bullying, harassment and online bullying. Oregon schools must also adopt a policy on teen dating violence.

In Florida, the Safe Harbor Act includes provisions that require police to turn over to the Department of Children and Families any children who are alleged to be sexually exploited or dependent for assessment and possible shelter.

States continue to wrestle with illegal immigration. Pennsylvania will include a requirement that contractors on public works projects make sure through the federal E-Verify system that their employees are legal U.S. residents, while a Montana ballot measure taking effect denies illegal immigrants of state services.

Supporters say the Montana law will prevent illegal immigrants from obtaining services and prevent them from taking jobs at a time of high unemployment. Opponents argued there is no proof illegal immigrants are using state services in Montana.

Also in Montana, voters overwhelmingly passed a measure requiring parental notification for minors' abortions, while in Georgia a new law will prohibit doctors from performing an abortion 20 weeks after an egg is fertilized unless a pregnancy is determined to be medically futile, meaning it would result in the birth of a child unlikely to survive because of a serious defect. Georgia became the seventh state in the country to approve the so-called fetal pain act.

"Today, we are reaffirming Georgia's commitment to preserving the sanctity of all human life," Gov. Nathan Deal said in a statement released shortly after he signed the bill in May.

The measure passed over the objection of many female lawmakers, including Sen. Valencia Seay, who said the bill's passage and signing was "unconscionable, but not surprising" and typical of the male-dominated General Assembly.

New Hampshire enacts a ban on a type of late-term abortion procedure sometimes called "partial birth abortion" after lawmakers overrode the veto of Gov. John Lynch, who said the measure was unnecessary because federal law already prohibits such procedures. Supporters of the ban say they don't trust the government to prosecute the law.

In Maryland, parents will be able to freeze their child's credit at any time if the child becomes a victim of identity theft. "This just freezes the information to ensure that it's not used for ill purposes," said Delegate Craig Zucker, a Democrat who sponsored the bill in the Maryland House of Delegates.

In Delaware, state officials must request an annual credit report for every child in foster care.

Among other new laws:

? Alabama begins cracking down on the state's 900,000 uninsured drivers with a new system that allows instant checks by police, license plate offices and the state Revenue Department.

? A pair of laws in Georgia and Pennsylvania address the shortfalls faced by some states from the cost of unemployment benefits by raising employers' contributions to unemployment compensation trust funds.

? In New Mexico, drivers registering their car or truck will be able to donate $1 or $5 to a state fund that supports programs and services to veterans, such as assistance in finding a job or treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder. In Utah, U.S. military personnel will be exempted from having to pay a full year's property taxes after their return from 200 days of active duty in any calendar year.

? In Florida, it will no longer be illegal to flash your headlights to warn oncoming drivers that police are lurking on the roadside ahead. The legislation was introduced after drivers were ticketed for warning other motorists that officers may be trying to catch speeders on the highway.

? A California law bans the use of dogs when hunting bobcats or bears, while Wisconsin's expansion of its hunting seasons to a month in autumn and another in April was a scaled-back version of a proposal that would have allowed hunting across a seven-month period from mid-October to late May. Residents reacted to the longer proposal with thousands of angry letters and emails.

Most people who opposed the measure said they would stop bringing their families to state parks if there were a chance of being struck by a stray bullet or of a pet straying into an animal trap. Supporters countered that hunting has long been a Wisconsin tradition and that hunters were well-versed in practicing safe techniques.

Home Prices in October Post Highest Annual ... - AOL Real Estate

WASHINGTON (AP) - US home prices rose in most major cities in October compared with a year ago, pushed up by rising sales and a decline in the supply of available homes. Higher prices show the housing market is improving even as it moves into the more dormant fall and winter sales period.

The Standard & Poor's/Case-Shiller national home price index released Wednesday increased 4.3 percent in October compared with a year ago. That's the largest year-over-year increase in two and a half years, when a homebuyer tax credit temporarily boosted sales.

Prices rose in October from a year ago in 18 of 20 cities. Phoenix led all cities with a 21.7 percent gain, followed Detroit, where prices increased 10 percent. Prices declined in Chicago and New York.

Home prices fell in 12 of 20 cities in October compared with September. Monthly prices are not seasonally adjusted, so the decreases reflect the end of the peak buying season.

Still, the broader trend is encouraging. October marked the fifth straight month of year-over-year gains, after nearly two years of declines. Prices rose in mid-2010 in the final months before the tax credit expired. They had fallen sharply in 2008 and 2009.

"It is clear that the housing recovery is gaining strength," said David Blitzer, chairman of the index committee at S&P Dow Jones Indexes.

The improvement in housing is adding to economic growth and most analysts expect that to continue in 2013.

But automatic tax increases and spending cuts that are set to take effect next week could drag down growth. The White House and Congress have so far failed to reach agreement on a way to avoid the "fiscal cliff." President Barack Obama and congressional lawmakers will return to Washington on Thursday to resume talks.

"We expect home price appreciation to continue for the foreseeable future, because inventories are lean amid rising sales," said Joseph LaVorgna, chief U.S. economist at Deutsche Bank. "This assumes that a resolution to the 'fiscal cliff' is found ... otherwise, the recent positive trend in housing would most certainly be in jeopardy along with the rest of the current economic expansion."

Prices nationwide have recovered to about the same level as in the fall of 2003, according to the Case-Shiller index. They remain about 30 percent below the peak reached in the summer of 2006.

The S&P/Case-Shiller index covers roughly half of U.S. homes. It measures prices compared with those in January 2000 and creates a three-month moving average. The October figures are the latest available.

Solid gains in home prices have helped drive a modest recovery in the housing market. Rising prices encourage more potential buyers to come off the sidelines and purchase homes. And more people may put their homes on the market as they gain confidence that they can sell at a good price.

Higher home prices can also make homeowners feel wealthier and more likely to spend more. Consumer spending accounts for about 70 percent of the U.S. economy.

Steady job gains and record-low mortgage rates have also helped propel the housing recovery. And the low supply of houses for sale is encouraging builders to start work on more homes. That should lead to more construction jobs.

The pace of home construction slipped in November but was still nearly 22 percent higher than a year earlier. Builders are on track this year to start work on the most homes in four years.

Builder confidence rose in December for a seventh straight month to the highest level in more than 6? years, according to a survey released last week by the National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo.

It changes all the time. My least favourite pose when I started (because it was so hard) is now one of my favourite poses (because now I can do it and it has taught me that things that seem impossible can be achieved by regular practice), the pose is called tiriangmukiekapadapascimottanasana

So many to choose from! I love jumping from downward dog into bhuja pidasana, I love ghaba pindasana, I love ekabhuja urdva padmasana, I love baddha padmasana, I love janu sirsasana C. I love uthita hasta padangustasana.

I do Mysore style ashtanga vinyasa yoga meditation. I've tried a few other kinds and they don't really do it for me. Only ashtanga gets me into the zone in the way that a few hours dancing or 23 dried welsh liberty caps do.

'vinyasa' means 'movement-breathing-system'. If there is a specific sequence (krama) and every movement happens on a specific breath, then it is vinyasa yoga. Ashtanga yoga is vinyasa yoga. Most classes calling themselves vinyasa classes are not true vinyasa because the instructor does not care (and never will) whether or not you really are inhaling or exhaling when you should be. Ujjayi breathing of course. If it's not Ujjayi, it's not vinyasa!

'Kundalini' yoga is any kind of yoga which 'raises your kundalini' which is another way of saying 'induces psychosis'.

You're right about Hatha - it means 'forcing meditation', the principle being that you can force just about anyone into a state of meditation with the right kind of moving and breathing whereas not everyone can be brought to meditation via more intellectual means (actually, no-one ever thought their way into meditation!)

Very true about the vinyasa yoga. That's why I stay away from the very fast paced sets, because ujjayi goes out the window. Smile I don't believe that the purpose of raising your kundalini is to induce psychosis though. It's more about raising your consciousness to the present, and putting yourself into a meditative state. I find it easier to delve into it with the mixture of repetition, willpower, and mantra.

Read this: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23044373
And google 'crazy wisdom'.

I can assure you that the experience of psychosis and kundalini rising are one and the same, but the prognosis depends on what prior training and preparation you've had.

I do "bicycle guitaring" yoga, but when I started doing it back in the early 1980s I did not at that time realize I was doing yoga. I just did it. For me, it is a meditation in motion.

Near as I can figure, this is both an action yoga (because of the movement) and a sound yoga (because there is music involved). There may be other forms of yoga involved. I am not familiar with all the formal names of the specific yoga types.
