MILWAUKEE -?People aren't the only ones having issues with the heat. Local veterinarians are seeing a spike in pet patients with heat-related problems.
Vets at the Milwaukee Emergency Center for Animals said dogs and cats are usually an afterthought in the summer sun.
"It's worse for the pets, because of course, the air is a problem,? said Marla Lichtenberger. ?They can't sweat, they can only sweat through their pads, and once they start panting, it drives up the temperature even higher."
The best advice for pets is the same for their owners. Stay inside and stay hydrated until the weather cools down.
