Chicago-born head of Orthdox Church in America steps down

Updated: July 9, 2012 4:18PM

The Chicago-born head of the Orthodox Church in America resigned his post over the weekend, saying ?I had come to the realization long ago that that I have neither the personality nor the temperament for the position.?

Metropolitan Jonah presented his resignation to church leaders during a conference call Saturday. He wrote that he was stepping down ?as per your unanimous request, as conveyed to me by Chancellor Fr. John Jillions.?

Born James Paffhausen in Chicago, he currently resides in Washington, D.C. He asked for a new assignment.

?I had come to the realization long ago that that I have neither the personality nor the temperament for the position of Primate, a position I never sought nor desired,? Metropolitan Jonah wrote.

?It is my hope that due consideration will be made for my financial situation, both in any interim and in consideration for any future position. I am the main financial support for both my parents and my sister, beyond my own needs.

?I will appreciate your consideration in this, and beg forgiveness for however I have offended you, and for whatever difficulties have arisen from my own inadequacies and mistakes in judgment.

?Asking your prayers, I remain faithfully yours, Metropolitan Jonah, Archbishop of Washington?

South Pole Neutron Detectors Given New Role in Predicting Space Weather

The approach could help give advanced warning to astronauts and sattelites, which would otherwise be irradiated and fried, respectively.

"Sattelites"? "Irradiated and fried, respectively" like meat? Respective of what?
[snip]

People get irradiated (ie cells affected by radiation)
Satellites get fried (ie circuts and/or other electronic components get shorted)

Both are common use terms (adjectives if you will) for the respective nouns that they are used to describe.

Respectively, in that sentence refers not to the sense of of the word which pertains to 'honor', but to the sense of the word that defines the order in which the given adjectives apply to the nouns. I.e. the term 'respectively' denotes that Irradiated refers to the Astro

Raspberry Pi turned into a classic gaming console | Ubergizmo

The Raspberry Pi is certainly one of the more interesting DIY computer components that we have come across so far, simply because you will need to purchase a chassis, monitor and other essential peripherals separately, never mind that the ?brain? of the computer will cost you a mere $35. Having said that, how far does $35 worth of chips are able to bring you these days? It will not be enough to play Diablo 3 or all of the latest games, but at least it gets the job done in terms of checking your emails and surfing your favorite new sites.

With the Raspberry Pi, this Linux-powered computer can also double up as a media center, a remote client for logging into a Windows PC, or even as a notebook ? but how about transforming it into a classic gaming console? This is what happened to this particular iteration of the Raspberry Pi, where it will load emulators for old school video game consoles including the SNES. One thing?s for sure, its processor is faster than anything from the 16-bit era, so even if it runs under the umbrella of an emulator, the end result is still pretty smooth to the eyes.

Sky Sports for iPad app adds split-screen tech in time for British Grand Prix

Sky Sports for iPad

5 July 2012 9:49 GMT / By Rik Henderson

Sky has added split-screen viewing to its Sky Sports for iPad application, to allow avid followers of Formula One to watch two different camera viewpoints at the same time.

Although it's not the "four-way split" teased to Pocket-lint at Sky's headquarters back in February, it does represent a new way to watch the action on a second screen or when mobile. Multiple feeds of each race will be offered - including live streams from the British Grand Prix this coming weekend - and you can choose any two of them to?simultaneous?play on the application.

Sky's F1 HD channel currently offers live footage all manner of footage during a race, include the usual driver views and its own dedicated pit channel, so you can ensure you don't miss a single moment, on or off the track.

Other changes added to the Sky Sports for iPad app through the update include TV guide integration, with the ability to remote record shows or live action on any of the broadcaster's sports channels; and there's new bespoke pages for county and international cricket, with the option to select preferred teams in the favourites section.

The app is free to download, and free to view for Sky subscribers with a Sky Sports package. It's ?4.99 per month for non-Sky subscribers or those who are, but without a Sky Sports subscription.
